ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was only responsible for its tenure.
Talking to the journalists outside the accountability court conducting corruption proceedings against the ousted premier, Nawaz claimed, “When we left, everything in the country was fine.”
He claimed that the PML-N government, which completed its constitutional tenure on May 31, had generated additional electricity and inaugurated many development projects.
Nawaz was responding to a journalist’s query pertaining to loadshedding.
“The country was in good hands when PML-N was ruling,” the ousted premier claimed.
He further said that former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated many projects before the tenure ended.
Further lauding PML-N’s tenure, he said, “We initiated 39 mega projects in the country. Has anyone even done this before? Did anyone else build motorways?”
He had hoped to inaugurate motorways in Lahore, Multan and Sukkur as well, Nawaz added. People know who brought about darkness and who brought light, he concluded.
It is pertinent to mention here that former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, on the last day in power, had also said that he will not be responsible for any loadshedding in the province from tomorrow onwards.
Shehbaz, who had served three terms as provincial chief minister, had said, “At midnight, the government is completing its term. If there is loadshedding tomorrow, do not hold me accountable.”
“Neither me nor (prime minister) Abbasi will be held responsible. The interim setup should be held responsible.”
