ISLAMABAD: The body of a Chinese engineer was recovered from Chinese Embassy in the federal capital, reported a local media outlet.

Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Islamabad Najeebur Rehman Bugvi said the 12-day-old body of the Chinese engineer identified as Yan Peng, 35, had been transported to the hospital by an embassy official, who had said it was found inside the embassy.

He added that there were no visible marks of torture on the body.

According to media reports, the engineer was 28 to 29 years old and had come to the country in May.

The Chinese engineer was residing inside the embassy’s premises and worked for a Chinese company which was closed for renovation.

Security officials elaborated that the engineer’s room was not checked earlier and officials from the embassy checked it after noticing a foul smell. Investigators said the Chinese national appears to have died of natural causes as he suffered from blood pressure related problems.

Meanwhile, state-run news agency, APP, reported that the body was recovered from an unspecified location in Islamabad, adding that, police have launched an investigation to ascertain the whereabouts and cause of death.

The PIMS administration had informed the Islamabad deputy commissioner and Chinese Embassy about the body being brought to the hospital.

The hospital would conduct a postmortem examination on the body after it received a response on the matter from Chinese Embassy.

In February this year, a Chinese national was shot dead in an apparent targeted killing by armed assailants in Karachi.

The Counter-Terrorism Department had said the man was killed over a dispute with his local partners.
