FIA initiates inquiry against ‘embezzlement’ by PPP’s Yousuf Talpur

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday initiated an inquiry against the alleged embezzlement committed by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Nawaz Yousuf Talpur.

According to a press release issued by the agency, the zonal board of the FIA held a meeting in which the board gave the approval to initiate an inquiry against PPP MNA Talpur, his son and former MPA Taimoor Talpur, SDO Masood Bajwa, among others.

The matter relates to the alleged embezzlement carried out during 2011 when a special grant of Rs 100 to 130 million was issued by then PM Gilani to Talpur for the construction of roads, public health, and other development schemes.

“Allegedly, the funds have been embezzled as neither roads were constructed nor other development schemes were completed in the area,” the release said.

It adds, “Funds were withdrawn, embezzled through fake bills in connivance of SDO Masood Bajwa and Taimoor Talpur.”

Moreover, the board meeting also gave the approval to initiate a probe against the officials and companies over “manipulation of void procurement to machine fitting process for thermal power stations of Jamshoro”.

It is alleged that “recycled equipment have been installed…instead of government approved new equipment…(which) caused huge loss to the national exchequer”.
