Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Salahuddin Mehsud on Wednesday took notice of the murder of Sikh rights activist Charanjeet Singh and directed the KP police to arrest the suspect(s) on a priority basis.

The police chief directed the capital city police officer to arrest the accused on a priority basis and sought a report on the case within a week. The trader-activist didn’t have personal enmity with anyone, the police said.

A case was registered at Inqilaab police station and further investigation is underway.

Sardar Charan Jeet Singh, an active leader of the Sikh community in Peshawar, was shot dead by unknown assailants in his shop near the Kohat General Bus Stand, Kohat Road on Tuesday.

A police official said that Sardar Charan Jeet Singh was present in his shop when unknown motorcyclists opened fire at him, killing him instantly. The assailants succeeded in escaping unharmed, the official added.

LIST RITES OF SINGH:

A large number of the community attended the funeral. The 42-year-old’s coffin was draped in Pakistan flag and placed inside Gurudwara Bhai Joga Singh in Peshawar. The body was then taken to Attock for cremation.
