T wo accused men escaped from the Mumtaz Colony police post of the ‘A’ Section police station, following which two policemen were arrested and the station house officer (SHO) suspended by the Khairpur district police officer (DPO). Police had arrested Hakim Ali and Ghulam Rasool Mallah from Salehpur with a stolen motorcycle and two TT pistols. The accused men were locked up in a cell, but they managed to free themselves of the handcuffs and escaped from the lockup of the police post, the police added. They said that after receiving information of the incident, the Khairpur DPO suspended ‘A’ Section SHO Noor Muhammad Abro and arrested policemen Roshan Ali Metlo and Ali Dur Katohar.
A case has been registered against the three policemen, whereas the assistant superintendent of police has been directed to probe the matter, they added. Meanwhile, the Shambani community, led by Mauladad and Muhammad Khan Shambani, strongly protested the escape of the two accused men. The protesters claimed that the locals had caught the suspects along with the weapons and stolen motorcycle and handed them over to the ‘A’ Section police. However, the police released the accused men after receiving a hefty bribe from them, the protesters added.
