The Muttahida Muslim League (MML) leaders have decided to maintain their independent status, pending the final decision to forge election alliance with PML-N or Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) in future.
Informed sources within the MML told Pakistan Today Saturday that the party leaders wanted its recognition as the third political force. They said a meeting of the party’s top leaders was held at the residence of PML-Likeminded leader Hamid Nasir Chattha to discuss the changing political scenario in the country and the outcome of the recent meetings with PML-N and other political parties.
They revealed that the MML leaders, including Hamid Nasir Chattha, Humayun Akhtar Khan, Ijaz-ul-Haq, Sheikh Rashid, Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri, Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Mahmood, Ghafar Qureshi and Saleem Saifullah attended the meeting. They said the veteran Muslim Leaguers, after reaching a decision on May 31 to contest the next general elections by making an alliance with likeminded political leaders and parties, held a meeting to carry forward mutual sharing about the developments in this regard.
However, a final decision would be made at the next meeting, they said. The meeting discussed in detail three options – keeping its present independent status or forging alliance with PML-N or allying with PTI of Imran Khan – in the next general elections.
