In a major development, LDA big gun Umm-e-Laila, known for her involvement in the mushroom growth of illegal buildings, has been suspended on direction of CM Shahbaz Sharif on charges of supporting the land mafia. Four other officials have also been suspended on the same charges and action was taken against them when the CM noticed widespread encroachments at the Khayaban-e-Amin on Saturday. Sources said arrest warrants had also been issued against them. “Being an officer of BPS-17 and working on secondment, Laila enjoyed the lucrative post of director town planning against the rules,” a senior LDA official said.
