Punjab govt signs contract with NADRA for computerisation of arms’ licences

Punjab government and the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) on Saturday signed a contract for the extension of the process of computerisation of all arms licences in Punjab for another three years- till 2020.

The initial three-year contract in this regards had expired last year in 2017.

The contract extension was signed by NADRA Chairman Usman Mobin and Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Home Major Azam Suleman in Lahore. Punjab Chief Secretary Captain Zahid Saeed and members of Cabinet Sub-Committee on Law & Order were also present on the occasion.

The Punjab IGP, Lahore CCPO, Home Department special secretary and the additional secretary judicial also attended the ceremony.

Mobin headed the NADRA’s delegation that comprised Nadra Director General Projects Zulfiqar, its director projects and project manager.

During the previous contract period from 2014 to 2017, NADRA had established 36 dedicated registration centres in each district of Punjab, 191 facilitation counters at the NRCs, dedicated mobile registration vans (MRVs) and dedicated centre for companies and institutions.

During the three years, NADRA had registered and computerised 89.74 per cent of the licences issued in the province. These included 852,115 licences issued to individual, 15,572 to institutions and 29,685 to security companies.

Under the new contract, NADRA will provide Smart Card-based end-to-end solution, revalidation of individual licences, securities companies and institutions licences, new licences issuance system and integration of bank for electronic fee collection.

It will also set up call centre facilitation, verification services for law enforcement agencies, arms dealers, armorers and manufacturers computerisation for better control and management and allied services.

The contract extension also includes new features like issuance of licences to institutions related to explosive material and computerisation of licences issued to arms dealers, manufacturers and armourers of
