A private university came under fire on social media for ordering its male and female students to “maintain a distance of at least 06 inches while sitting or standing together”.
According to details, a notification issued by the Karachi campus of Bahria University (BU) asked its students to strictly follow the dress code apart from ordering the students of opposite gender to keep a distance as “touching of males and females is forbidden”.
“All students are hereby directed to strictly abide by the dress code while in the university. Instructions have been issued for the disciplinary action against the violators as per the rules,” the notification reads.
It adds that “male and female students are to maintain a distance of at least 06 inches while sitting/standing together”. The varsity warned that fines would be levelled on the violators.
All HODs and security staff members have been ordered to ensure the implementation of directives.
Moreover, the private varsity has also been criticised in past for its strict dress code in which women are forbidden to wear sleeveless shalwar qameez and tights. Dupatta and scarf have been mentioned as compulsory items with all dresses on the university’s website. According to the disciplinary action in case of non-compliance, the BU students have to pay a fine of Rs 5000 on the second strike. Their attendance is barred over the third strike, the website warns.
The private university was reached for comment but to no avail.
