ISLAMABAD: Brig (r) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and Shahbaz Ahmad were unanimously elected as president and secretary of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), respectively on Tuesday for a term of four years.
The PHF elections were held here, in which Khawar Anwar Khawaja, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Muhammad Saeed Khan and Chaudhary Ismail Gujjar were elected as vice-presidents. Muhammad Ikhlaq was elected as the treasurer.
Speaking on the occasion, the election was held under the election commission.
Talking about the hockey affairs, he said we have and will be working on to improve domestic hockey.
“We are holding competitions between both senior and junior men’s teams for the uplift of the game,” he said and added, “We will be building a formidable hockey team in these four years.”
He said it was the need of the hour to bring in a foreign coach for the game and we have also roped in a foreign physical trainer for the players.
Khokhar said currently PHF’s target is the Asian Games that are scheduled to be held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
“We want to perform with all our might in the Games in order to qualify for the Olympics,” he said.
Responding to a question, he said “our junior team will be participating in six-nation international hockey tournament to be held in the first week of September in Rawalpindi.”
“We tried our level best to host the Pakistan Hockey League (PHL) this year but couldn’t do so but next year it will be our top priority to host PHL,” he said. To a question, he said Lahore High Court did not bar PHF to hold elections.
