The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Friday called upon all religious and political parties and people from all nationalities and linguistic entities to stand united for weeding out the enemies of peace in Karachi. “Everyone must their due role with right earnest and patience to foil the conspiracy of creating turbulence and mayhem in Karachi,” said the MQM leaders, including Wasay Jalil, at a press conference on Saturday.
“People of all linguistic and racial entities living in Karachi, want to live peacefully but a handful of disturbing elements always conspire to create a law and order situation in the city. We appeal that people do not fall prey to conspiracies and defeat the vile attempts of creating mayhem in Karachi and cooperate with the government. “You are well aware that Karachi is home to different linguistic groups and ethnicities that have been living together peacefully for many years. The manner in which the MQM served the people of Karachi, setting aside prejudices of language and ethnicity during the previous government when the administration of the city was in control of the Nazims belonging to the MQM, is recognised even by our adversaries.
“There was no linguistic tension in Karachi in that period but a conspiracy has been hatched to create hostilities among various nationalities living in the city particularly Pakhtuns and the Mohajirs. “An unending series of violence starts in Karachi on the pretext of any incident and innocent citizens are targeted particularly the people living in Orangi Town, Qasba Colony, Aligarh, and areas adjoining Kati Pahari are victims of terrorist attacks.
A similar fiery situation erupted in the past week and a number of innocent people including MQM workers were targeted in order to instigate Pakhtun-Mohajir riots. The peace-loving people of Karachi nonetheless foiled the conspiracy to flame riots by showing restraint. “We offer our condolences to the people who lost their lives in the last few days and pray for the early recovery of the injured,” concluded the MQM leaders.
