The age of innocence lost

Ten million children are engaged in child labour in Pakistan in blatant violation of the prohibition codified in the labour laws of Pakistan. Some people may argue that employing these children is the lesser of two evil as they won’t have access to education anyways and it takes them off the streets forget that labour conditions are very exploitative. Debt bondage and dreary working conditions entrap these children while the fact that they are deprived of education seals this entrapment. The government should have a long-term strategy to deal with this problem as it cannot be uprooted in the short run. Non-state actors should also play their part. Let’s make sure these children don’t lose their innocence in the vicissitudes of life.
