A commander was among 13 militants killed in an air strike by NATO-led troops in the Omna district of southeastern Paktika province, officials said.
The commander was identified as Mamoor Jan, who was killed along with a dozen others late on Wednesday night, the 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman, Lt. Haroon Yousafzai said.
Separately, an Arab militant was killed in a clash with a joint Afghan-international security force in the Jalalzai area of Bak Khel district. A Kalashnikov was recovered from the man, Yousafzai said.
Elsewhere in the province, Afghan army troops detained four suspected militants with arms and ammunitions in the Orgun district.
