KARACHI: Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) has been facing acute shortage of water for a week, landing hospital administration in great trouble in handling emergency surgery cases and others affairs.

The CHK has been receiving 60 per cent less water from Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) for last seven days due to unknown reasons. The shortage of water has badly affected the affairs of the hospital.

The shortage of water also troubles the staff in handling emergency surgery cases.

CHK Additional Medical Superintendent (AMS), Dr Arif Niaz, while talking to PPI, said that the curtailed supply of water has badly affected the functioning of Sindh’s largest tertiary care hospital. He informed that hospital management is trying to approach the KWSB officials for resuming of water supply but so far, no positive response has been received.

He informed that patients and their attendants are deprived of clean drinking water, while sanitation system of the hospital is also badly affected due to the shortage of water.

He said severe water shortage has increased the miseries of patients and medical staff.

He said routine cleanliness and other such tasks are also badly affected owing to water scarcity.

Dr Arif Niaz said nine water tanks are receiving 40 per cent of water from KWSB against actual demand which landed the administration in trouble to run the daily affairs of health facility effectively.

Earlier, KWSB used to provide water to hospital round the clock but now it is providing water for few hours in a day, he added.
