The Art and Design Entrepreneurship Exhibition by the Beaconhouse National University (BNU) students ended successfully at the Alhamra Art Gallery, The Mall on Thursday.
Dialogue 1 was the first-ever student-curated exhibition by four students of the BNU School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) namely Usman Saleemi, Syed Faraz Ali, Umber Majeed and Zoya Siddiqui.
Chief Guest Nayyer Ali Dada along with the Guest of Honor, SME Business Support Fund (BSF) CEO Saquib Mohuddin lauded the efforts of the students, commending its mixture of mediums and modes of creativity.
Addressing the participants, Mohyuddin said, “I was not expecting such an elaborate display of creativity. As a matter of fact, I only came here to support this initiative as it is proof of hope in the future of arts and entrepreneurs in our country”.
The event was opened to the public, and no passes or entry fees were required. Prominent artists, designers, and senior creative professionals from various industries watched students’ creative ideas in this exhibition.
The exhibition continued till June 16 and attracted around 1,000 people over three days. The visitors included students, art-admirers and artists.
The exhibition explored the boundaries between art and design, and featured works from a wide range of disciplines including sculpture, digital art, painting, photography, print design and typography and textile. It was Pakistan’s first-ever exhibit dedicated exclusively to design entrepreneurship. Close to 200 works by 60 students from foundation year to BNU’s Master’s of Art and Design Programme were exhibited.
A citizen Asif said, “I am really inspired by the work of these students. It was a good effort and we should promote our art and culture by organising more events of this nature.”
Syed Fraz Ali, a member of the organising team said, “I did not expect such an extra ordinary feedback for our work,” adding, “We had tried to distinguish between art and design; usually people mixed both concepts.” He said Sadaf’s works gained more popularity among the people and the BNU faculty also appreciated her creativity.
Quratul Ain, a Beaconhouse student said, “My parents extended full support to me and we have tried to eradicate stereotype picture exhibitions here by giving a new touch to art and design.”
Abdul Moeed said people’s enthusiastic response to the exhibition was unexpected. He said it was a big platform for the participants and the university must make such exhibitions a tradition.
BNU External Affairs Officer Zaeem Yaqoob told Pakistan Today, “Our students have a lot of creativity and potential. It was solely the students’ effort, the varsity only provided them with a platform.” He said the university would regularly give such opportunities to its students in the future.
That's a healthy activity. Organizing such activities would help the students get better exposure, meet professionals, get chance to show off their work.. Chief Guest Nayyer Ali Dada adn Guest of Honor shows how well the event was organized. Organizing event of first of its type in Pakistan will really be great. Mr. Asif, Syed Fraz Ali and Qurat ul Ain comments shows how well the event was.. Hope BNU is bringing more and more creative concepts and quality work to show off..
