ISLAMABAD: Former Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed on Monday clarified that the 3G award presented to HEC for three continuous years during his tenure were from Cambridge ‘Islamic Finance’ (IF) Analytica, and have nothing to do with the infamous Cambridge Analytica.

The clarification comes as some sections of media had earlier reported that HEC received awards from Cambridge Analytica, a dubious data mining firm that was at the heart of a scandal involving social media website Facebook and its role in 2016 US presidential elections.

The awards were, however, bestowed upon the commission by Cambridge IF Analytica – a financial services intelligence house that specialises in developing and utilising cutting-edge analytical tools to evaluate business data.

The clarification issued by HEC further said that “[state] institutions are beyond individuals and should be respected and not maligned.”
