-Ex-MI official declares allegations levelled by PTI chief baseless
-Demands formation of judicial commission to probe rigging allegations
Director General of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in Punjab Brig (r) Muzaffar Ali Ranjha rejected Imran Khan’s allegations that army helped Nawaz Sharif during the 2013 general elections, demanding the formation of a judicial commission to probe the rigging allegations against him.
In an interview on Thursday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief had alleged that the ousted prime minister had army’s help in the elections, adding that Brig (r) Ranjha had been Nawaz’s aide in Punjab.
Responding to the claim of Imran Khan, Brig (r) Ranjha said, “I ask him [Imran Khan] to get these [allegations] again probed by another commission comprising three persons, one each from the army, the judiciary and the media. Before this I ask him to give an undertaking along with me to be ready to go for capital punishment in the wake of its (commission) report.”
The ex-official of Military Intelligence (MI) said if Imran was still not satisfied with the investigation and was not ready to abandon his rigging idea then he should get the allegations probed through another judicial commission.
He asked whether Imran Khan had got his “answer from the judicial commission headed by then chief justice of Pakistan Nasirul Mulk that completely rejected his allegations”.
“Imran should sign his statement and I will do the same. There should be strict punishment for the person proven wrong,” he remarked.
“Army played no part in 2013 elections. The army was busy fighting war against terrorism,” he said.
“The allegations made by a party head after an investigation has been carried out over alleged rigging in last elections are baseless,” he remarked in an interview.
Former army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had strictly prohibited officials from interfering into politics, Ranjha added.
‘SHEHBAZ CHAMPION OF UNITY’:
He also shared that Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif had appointed him as DG anti-corruption department after seeing his work as MI Punjab sector commander.
“He told me that the way I have worked, I will even improve the anti-corruption establishment, remarked Ranjha. “Shehbaz Sharif is the champion of national unity in Pakistan.”
Brig Ranjha also claimed that he, with the help of Punjab CM, had made ACE the best institution to for accountability.
