Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently considered holding the opening ceremony of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2019 in Pakistan, media reports said on Friday.
While discussing the matter during the PCB meeting in Lahore, senior executives exchanged their opinions whether it would be possible to kickstart the next year’s mega cricketing event from one of Pakistan’s cities.
Some PCB officials believed that it was possible to hold PSL4 opening ceremony as well as some matches in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, some franchises submitted their complaints over the level of umpiring seen during PSL3 and have asked the board to improve upon that in the next edition.
The PCB also suggested that the franchises should improve the bonuses of the players, with recommendations for tax deductions even from the salaries of foreign players.
Apart from the final match played in Karachi, PSL3 opened the doors of international cricket in Pakistan by holding two play-offs in Lahore, signaling the return of top-level cricket after nearly a decade since the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team bus.
Pakistan has successfully hosted several international matches before PSL 2018, including the series against World XI, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. In recent times, New Zealand revealed that they were considering the possibility of touring the country as part of their away series against Pakistan.
On Thursday, it was reported that the PCB was likely to restrict players under contracts in terms of their participation in the international leagues. According to details, the condition of ‘two leagues per year’ came under discussion during a meeting which was chaired by PCB chairman Najam Sethi and attended by Haroon Rasheed, Mudassar Nazar, Shakil Sheikh, Subhan Ahmed and Naila Bhatti and others.
