ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has allowed former MPA from PML-N Rashida Yaqoob to contest elections.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed held the review petition against the disqualification of PML(N)’s MPA Rashida Yaqoob.

During hearing the lawyer of former MPA adopted the stance that the disqualification of husband does not affect the membership of the wife. He told the court that her husband Yaqoob Shiekh was disqualified on the grounds that he was loan defaulter of a bank. At that time Rashida Yaqoob was also disqualified from her seat.

“The MPA does not want the return to assembly seat for just a month, however, she demands the court that she may be allowed to contest next elections”, the lawyer pleaded the court.

After hearing the argument the court allowed former MPA Rashida Yaqoob to take part in the upcoming general elections.

Rashida Yaqoob was elected member of provincial assembly from PP-78 Jhang on the ticket of ruling PML-N in the by-elections after the disqualification of her husband.
