PESHAWAR: The Akhagram checkpost in Dir has been handed over to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police by the Pakistan Army on Tuesday.

Military and police officials were present at the symbolic handing-over ceremony.

The checkpost separates Lower and Upper Dir.

Handing over of the checkpost is part of the civil authorities taking back administrative powers from the army, following the re-establishment of peace in Dir after 10 years.

Speaking to a ceremony on April 10, pertaining to the transition, General Commanding Officer Major General Ali Amir Awaan had said, “This day is of utmost importance in the country’s history as today the army officials are handing over administration to civil authorities.”

Earlier, Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Nazir Ahmed Butt, while addressing a press conference, had said that 60pc of the security check-posts would be handed over to the civilian administration by June 2018.
