KARACHI: Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Chawla informed Sindh Assembly that 91,449 cars were registered in Karachi during 2014 and 2015, while during the same period only 19 vehicles were registered in other parts of the province, according to a local media outlet.
The minister informed this during the provincial assembly’s question-hour session upon inquisition by Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Khawaja Izharul Hassan.
The minister added that not a single car had been registered in Mirpur Khas, Benazirabad and Hyderabad in 2014 and 2015. On a question pertaining to motorcycles, Chawla informed the house that 423,818 motorcycles were registered in Karachi compared to 222,409 motorcycles in the rest of the province, during the same period.
Answering another question, Minister Chawla said 46,398 imported cars were registered and Motor Vehicle Tax (MVT) amounting to 638million rupees was collected from 2013 to 2015.
