RAWALPINDI: Labour Day also known as May Day will be observed around the world including Rawalpindi to express solidarity with workers and labourers on Tuesday.
The day is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. It has its origins in the labour union movement specifically the eight-hour day movement which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation and eight hours for rest.
Different trade unions including Pakistan Railway Labour Union, WAPDA Union, Municipal Corporation Workers Union, and others would celebrate the day and would conduct rallies and seminars to mark the occasion.
Labour Day observed on May 1 every year to remember the martyrs of Chicago who had laid down their lives for fundamental rights in 1886.
