  • Zardari warns against sacking of workers in any state-run enterprise

 

 

KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that PPP will continue its struggle for the rights and privileges of working and labour class in the country, saying that they are the backbone for his party and the society.

In a message on the eve of International Labour Day being observed across the world today (May 1), the PPP chief pointed out that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto unveiled first-ever Labour Policy in February 1972 and introduced trade union rights in the country.

He said the PPP’s government had launched Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme (BESOS) to offer free shares to the staffers of the state enterprises.

Bilawal also hailed the Sindh government for announcing first-ever tripartite Labour Policy, which was unanimously approved by government, workers and employers as all the three agreed on the need of working through joint cooperation.

While, PPP President Asif Ali Zardari has warned against sacking workers in any state-run enterprise under any pretext saying that his party will ensure workers’ job security and not let them be deprived of their livelihood.

In a message on the on the eve of International Labour Day, Zardari said that the party was closely watching attempts to make PIA a loss-making entity to make a false justification for its privatisation.

He said, ‘On International Labour Day, I wish to reiterate that PPP will not abandon the working classes in their struggle for dignity and rights’.

He said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had stood by the workers in their struggle for job security, decent wages and right to dignity

Following in the footsteps of its leaders, the PPP will ensure that the promises made by our Shaheed leaders were fulfilled in letter and spirit, he added.

The struggle for improving the working conditions of workers and protection from exploitation was a continuous one and the party will continue its struggle to secure the rightful place of workers in the society, he maintained.
