SARGODHA: Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that no one except him is being held accountable, adding that only he appears to be in sight for accountability.

Addressing members of the Parliament and workers from Sargodha division, the former premier said that the ‘corrupt politicians’ who looted the national resources through rental power projects and other plans were not held accountable.

Nawaz said that he is not being given a chance to tend to his ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz, who is currently under treatment in London for cancer. He complained that the country’s well-being lies in giving respect to vote and it can lead to institutions functioning properly.

The trial against the Sharif family had commenced on September 14, 2017.

The corruption references, filed against the Sharifs, pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metal Establishment, offshore companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and Avenfield properties of London.

The ex-premier and his sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz are accused in all three references whereas his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Safdar are accused in the Avenfield reference only.

On Tuesday’s hearing, Maryam’s counsel Amjad Pervez conducted cross-examination of prosecution witness Zahir Shah. The NAB DG Operations was recently included as a witness by the prosecution.

Shah said he acquired a copy of Volume X of the JIT report through a letter of Supreme Court registrar. He added that he did not share contents of volume with anyone but the investigation officer. During the hearing, Pervez objected to the prosecutor’s reported interference in the cross-examination.
