ISLAMABAD: SA & SAARC Director General (DG), Mohammad Faisal, summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh on Friday and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian occupation forces along the Line of Control (LoC) on 26th April 2018 in Padhar Sector, resulting in the death of 2 civilians, Mr Nazir and Mr Rafiq r/o Village Bramla, as well as, injuries to 2 others.

The Indian forces along the LoC and the working boundary are continuously targeting civilian populated areas with heavy weapons.

From the beginning of 2018 to now, the Indian forces have carried out more than a 1000 ceasefire violations along the LoC and the working boundary, resulting in the deaths of 23 civilians, while injuring 107 others. This unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India is continuing from the last year when they committed 1970 ceasefire violations.

The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws. The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.

DG Mohammad Faisal urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement, investigate the matter and other incidents of ceasefire violations, and instruct Indian forces to respect the ceasefire and maintain peace on the LoC and the working boundary.

He also pushed for the Indian side to permit UNMOGIP to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
