LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said politics of welfare was the only priority of the government, adding that the PML-N’s development agenda was taken forward despite the opponents’ obstructions.

Speaking to elected representatives, who called on him here, the chief minister said, “On the other hand, the sit-in group remained engrossed in politics of negativity, allegations and falsehood.”

“The conscious people are now fed up with the elements involved in mendacity,” he said and added that his opponents suffered defeat in the elections of 2013 and would meet the same fate in 2018 as well.

“These elements have meted out cruelty to the people by prioritising their personal interests and the nation will reject them in the upcoming elections. The people will cast their votes in favour of those who served them with honesty,” he added.

The chief minister said the sagging economy that the government had inherited five years ago was restored due to the incumbent government’s solid and transparent economic policies. “Our government has completed record projects of public interest by better utilisation of national resources. The credit of industrial development and strengthening of the economy goes to the PML-N government,” he said.

“Pakistan of today is much more secure, prosperous and economically viable than before,” he added.

CM Shehbaz also said the mission of bringing improvements in the lives of the common people would be fulfilled and the PML-N led government would continue to serve the masses selflessly. “Meanwhile, those impeding the journey of national development and prosperity have continued to fail in fulfilling their promises.”

He said the groups propagating disappointment in the people had become a victim of their negative designs. “These elements continuously wasted the time of the people for five long years and made efforts to obstruct the journey of development,” said the chief minister while adding that the people would once again reject these elements and their politics of negativity would be laid to rest forever.

He also said the elements levelling baseless allegations were playing with the future of the country and they would be held accountable for their negative tactics.

“Zardari and Niazi are the two sides of the same coin. One ruined Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) while the other left Sindh devastated. Those who obstructed the journey of development through sit-ins, chaos and agitation are the emblem of politics of dishonesty and lies and have no interest in solving the problems of the people,” he added.

He said that those who neglected energy projects and plunged the country into darkness during their tenure would be held accountable for their deeds and added, “Due to the plundering of corrupt rulers of the past, the country remained a hostage to poverty, ignorance and backwardness.”

“These elements are once again dreaming of robbing national resources by coming into power, but they do not know that the people have not forgotten about their corruption,” concluded the chief minister.
