Zardari meets Ahmadinejad, Rahmon

President Asif Ali Zardari and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Wednesday expressed their determination to continue close collaboration to further regional peace and stability.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), the two leaders held fruitful discussion on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern.

In the spirit of good brotherly and neighbourly relations, Pakistan and Iran would explore new opportunities of economic cooperation, the two leaders said, according to a news release.

On the other hand, President Zardari and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon agreed to expand economic ties by expediting work on the current development projects jointly undertaken by the two countries. They pledged to intensity joint efforts to increase volume of trade between the two countries during their meeting.

Sharing views on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest, they discussed prospects of starting more projects in energy, banking, transportation and communication sectors. President Zardari assured of Pakistan’s full support to the international community in keeping peace and stability in region.

He said that Pakistan wanted to expand relations with Central Asian states, which are rich in natural resources and can take advantage of the huge market offered by Pakistan. The two leaders shared the optimism that more exchanges between businessmen and private sectors can unleash the huge potential of their educated and skilled people.
