A total lunar eclipse will occur on the night between Wednesday and Thursday that will be visible in Pakistan, stated an official of the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on Tuesday. Reportedly, the total lunar eclipse will begin at 01:22:30 PST and end at 03:02:42 PST. The partial eclipse, meanwhile, will begin at 00:22:56 PST and end at 04:02:15 PST. The year’s first total lunar eclipse will also be the longest and darkest total lunar eclipse of the century, giving sky enthusiasts all over the country an opportunity to witness the event. The next such eclipse will only take place in 2141.
The duration of the total phase will be of 100 minutes – the longest stretch of deep dimming in 11 years. The last eclipse to exceed this duration was in July 2000.
