LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday inaugurated the National History Museum established at the Greater Iqbal Park.
Visiting the museum later, the chief minister paid tribute to the heroes of the Pakistan Movement and said that the National History Museum was a wonderful project that had beautifully revived the history of the country.
“It is a historical project that will attract the tourists,” he said and added that the basic concepts of freedom, struggle and the initial phases of the establishment of Pakistan had beautifully been depicted at the museum.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Shehbaz said the Greater Iqbal Park itself was a wonderful addition to the beautiful city of Lahore and the establishment of the National History Museum was a similar landmark of history.
“The Greater Iqbal Park is the historic venue where the resolution for the establishment of Pakistan was approved back in 1940. People from across the sub-continent, including both men and women, Muslim and non-Muslim scholars, lawyers, labourers, players and poets, gathered here on March 23, 1940, and later sacrificed their lives and property for the sake of a new country of their own,” said the chief minister.
“The National History Museum is a reminder of this arduous human struggle,” said Shehbaz and added that it would help the people to realise that this piece of land was achieved after huge sacrifices.
Expressing his resolve for national development, he said that progress could only be made by promoting science and information technology. “America is a global superpower, Europe is also touching the heights of development, while China has emerged as the second economic power in the world,” said Shehbaz and added that the secret of the countries’ progress lied in the promotion of latest technology, provision of socio-economic justice and hard work.
He said that Pakistan had the necessary ability to move forward with speed as a major chunk of the population was based on youth which was the engine of development. “Time would come when Pakistan will achieve a respectable place in the comity of nations as it is a gift of Almighty Allah,” said Shehbaz.
Later, the chief minister also inaugurated the lake in Greater Iqbal Park and appreciated the fact that the best boating facility had been provided for recreation. “The people can witness the struggle for Pakistan in this park where recreation facilities have been provided along with information and historical facts,” he said.
The chief minister also congratulated the concerned provincial ministers, chief secretary, Lahore Division commissioner, PHA DG and his team for working hard to complete the innovative project and adding to the beauty of the provincial capital.
