ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jehangir Tareen said on Monday that the threatening tone of Capt (r) Safdar would not affect the image of the joint investigation team (JIT) constituted by the top court in Panama Papers case.

Talking to journalists outside the accountability court, Tareen claimed that a number of senior leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) expressed desire of joining the PTI, hoping that the leaders of South Punjab Front would also join PTI soon.

He admitted that he was disappointed at the lifetime disqualification ruled by Supreme Court but never criticised the judiciary in contrary to Nawaz Sharif who launched a campaign against the apex court after the verdict.

He further said that he had neither launched any campaign nor hidden behind the party, adding that he accepted the decision of the top court by resigning from the then position of secretary general.

Tareen reaffirmed that PTI had always respected the judiciary and salutes it for its valour. He said under the top court had constituted the JIT along with its members.

He told reporters that under the PTI’s manifesto, a decision was taken to create the separate province of South Punjab. He said PML-N had always ignored the people of southern Punjab areas. He said leaders of South Punjab would always support PTI’s move for a separate province.
