ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued a notice to Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Farooq Sattar in a plea seeking contempt of court case.
Justice Aamer Farooq of the IHC heard the petition filed by Kanwar Naveed against the MQM-P leader.
Barrister Farogh Naseem, counsel for the petitioner, contended that Sattar had committed contempt of court by submitting an application with the Senate secretariat for changing the parliamentary leader of his party.
The court had earlier suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to remove Sattar as the convener but he violated the court orders, Naseem argued.
Farooq Sattar did not attend the court proceeding on Monday.
After issuing a notice to the MQM-P leader, IHC adjourned the case till April 17.
On Saturday, the petitioner’s counsel Babar Sattar had argued that ECP was not authorised to intervene into internal affairs of any political party. He requested the court to declare the ECP decision null and void.
