—FATA, KP merger priority if PTI comes to power
MARDAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan (PTI) on Monday invited people to the party’s historic political gathering at the Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore on April 29 during his address in Takht-i-Bahi, Mardan.
The PTI leader took a swipe at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and its senior leaders for “attacking institutions” and commented on the firing incident at the residence of a Supreme Court (SC) justice on Sunday.
“These people are after members of the Panama joint investigation team (JIT),” he said.
Imran said that the entire nation is standing with the head of the now-defunct Panama JIT, Wajid Zia and added that Wajid will April 29 will be a testimony to the nation’s support for Wajid.
In regard to allegations of horse trading in the recently held Senate elections, Imran admitted that some PTI senators “sold their conscience” and promised that he planned to root out all such members from the party.
“Those who sold their conscience will be thrown out from the party, even if we lose the election,” he assured and welcomed new PTI members saying that time will show how the decision was made the sake of an ideology and the country’s betterment.
While speaking on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) merger, the PTI leader slammed Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) Mehmood Achakzai saying that the duo was behind the obstructions in the merger.
“KP and tribal areas should be merged. If there is a merger we can carry out development work, but who stopped it? Fazl and Achakzai. They told PML-N that PTI will become stronger [in the region] if a merger takes place,” said Imran.
He further questioned Maualana’s intentions and religiousness as Fazl grabs every opportunity to form an alliance with those in power. “Maulana says that I am a Jewish conspiracy. I think that there is no need for any conspiracies in his presence,” he stated.
He stated that he empathised with tribal people as they have lived through massive hardships due to the fight against terrorism.
Imran further said that the merger of the two provinces will usher in new era of development and he would make sure that it happens on first priority if the PTI wins the elections.
Earlier in the day, during an interview with a Russian news agency, Imran Khan remarked that the United States (US) uses Pakistan like a tissue paper.
“US President Donald Trump is speaking the language of India against Pakistan,” he said. “United States aid is nothing compared to the losses incurred by us. The meagre aid from the US cost Pakistan a lot.”
He reiterated that Pakistan has paid the price of participating in the US war by losing more than 70,000 lives.
“Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan. A military solution won’t be able to resolve the Afghan crisis,” said Imran while commenting on Pakistan’s terms with Afghanistan.
