ISLAMABAD: The appointment of director general of Intelligence Bureau (IB) still awaits the nod from Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, two weeks after the retirement of the head of government’s major civilian intelligence agency, Aftab Sultan, reported a local English newspaper.
According to official sources, despite considering different names, the premier has so far not finalised any individual for the vacant slot which is seriously affecting agency’s operations since DG IB’s approval is essential to conduct the field operations in addition to carrying out day to day affairs.
Some of the senior officers, out of whom PM was interested to pick the chief, declined the offer to accept the position which is one of the major reasons for the delay to fill the vacant slot of the civilian spymaster.
