ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court ordered the provincial government and federal agencies to strictly follow the guidelines given by committee established in the backdrop of deaths of stone-crushing labourers due to silicosis, reported a local English newspaper.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, warned that any violation of guidelines by the provincial or federal government will be considered as disobedience to orders of the court which will lead to strict action against the delinquents.

The issue related to silicosis came into the top court after two human rights activists, Usama Khawar and Yahya Farid Khawaja, submitted an application highlighting the deaths of 18 stone-crushing labourers in Gujranwala due to silicosis. Among them, nine labourers belonged to the same village.
