KURRAM AGENCY: A retired female officer, reportedly for the first time in Kurram Agency, has announced to contest general elections 2018.

Ali Begum has not only decided to contest the polls but also started her election campaign in the region of Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

During a recently held public rally, Begum said she wants to contest and win the general elections so that she can work for the development of the area and help the oppressed get their due rights.

Ali Begum, an independent candidate, stated she was asked to contest the elections before but she wanted to give chance to others. “But now I feel that it is time for me to step forward for the progress of my area,” the candidate said, adding that she will spread a web of development projects in the area after winning from her constituency.

Begum is also said to be the first bureaucrat from FATA after passing her  Public Service Commission exams.

Women in public domain is not a common sight in FATA but it is not new for the former civil officer as she was the only girl getting the education in a boys school in her native area of Karman, Kurram Agency.

Talking about the public response, she said that people have been coming to her rallies and listening what she says. “This is a good sign,” she said.
