ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to bar public office holders since January 2000 from availing tax amnesty scheme in an attempt to counter the concerns that former rulers can take advantage of the assets-whitening package, reported a local English newspaper.

The ruling party has decided to repeat the definition of ‘public officer holders’ described in the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999 in the Foreign Assets Declaration Ordinance, which is still under drafting process on Sunday.

The government, however, is still not ready to include the definition of politically exposed persons (PEPs) in the ordinance, the sources stated.
