The cantonment in Swat was made in response to the desire of the local people, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Major General Asif Ghafoor said in a statement issued on Tuesday. The statement further said that people in Swat could not even breathe with freedom due to the prevailing security situation.

ISPR DG said that there were gross human rights violations being committed in Swat in 2008 when people’s throats were being cut. The statement further said that peace has been restored in the city, citing the Article 245 of the constitution through which the civilian government can take the assistance of the armed forces to restore peace.

It was further stated that those who are found suspicious are arrested and taken to detention centres. However, the innocent people are soon released by the law enforcement agencies, said ISPR.

Commenting on Balochistan, ISPR DG said that the security situation in the province has improved owing to the collective efforts of civil and military leadership. There is no presence if Daesh (ISIS) in Pakistan, ISPR categorically said.
