FAISALABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday evening took suo motu notice of the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Faisalabad.
The Supreme Court (SC) ordered Punjab Inspector General Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan to submit a report before the court within 48 hours.
Earlier, the post-mortem report of the child confirmed that minor was raped and tortured before being killed.
The autopsy report mentioned that 21 torture marks were found on the child’s body. The medical supervisor Dr Tariq, however, said that cause of death was still unknown and more tests would be conducted to find that out.
The seven-year-old minor named Mubashira went missing on Sunday, and her tortured dead body was found from Islampura area of Faisalabad later in the day.
Following the murder of the seven-year-old Mubashra and police’s inability to arrest the suspects, protests broke out in Faisalabad on Tuesday as it was not the first such incident in recent days as a few days ago, a university student went missing and was found murdered after rape in the industrial hub of Punjab.
A large number of civil society activists, area residents and relatives of the victim took part in the demonstration and forcibly closed shops in Jaranwala. Many lawyers boycotted court proceedings to take part in the protest.
Police were called in to control the situation after the protesters resorted to vandalism. They raised slogans against the police and charged with a Punjab Police vehicle with sticks.
The funeral prayers of the minor were attended by hundreds of residents at Kachery Chowk.
Last week, the dead body of a Faisalabad university student named Abida was found in Dijkot city of Faisalabad district but police had not yet arrested the culprits behind the case.
Abida, a student of MA English at Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF), went missing on March 25. Her dead body was recovered from Djikot. Her initial post-mortem report had suggested that she was raped before being murdered.
