GARHI KHUDA BUKSH: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member and Leader of the Opposition in Senate Sherry Rehman on Tuesday said that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was involved in disrespecting the parliament.

Addressing the media in Garhi Khuda Baksh, she said, “PML-N is involved in disrespecting the Parliament.”

“When a verdict is not given in their favour, they do not accept anyone,” she said. “Whenever all other roads are closed for them and they see a dead end, they remember democracy,” she added.

She said that PML-N was running away from accountability and further asked that why PML-N was not presenting itself before the parliament to answer about the Panama Papers controversy.

“Democracy is not dependent on any one individual,” the PPP leader stressed.

“People talk about respecting the vote but how can those who do not believe in Senate talk about respect?” she asked.

The leader of the opposition in Senate also said that PPP did not want a clash between institutions. “PPP has always considered every institution respectable,” she said.

She further said that the party would protest against anyone who wanted to derail democracy.

Regarding the caretaker government setup, she said that no one could be named for the position of caretaker premier just yet.

“We want the caretaker government to be set up as per the constitution and the democratic norms,” she said.
