ISLAMABAD: The government has failed in ending loadshedding as power shortfall will surpass 6000 megawatts during the extreme heat.

The prolonged outages have started in different areas of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Southern Punjab. In these areas, the power outages were being observed from 12 hours to 16 hours on daily basis.

When the Pakistan Muslim League-N came to power, the electricity shortfall was 5000 megawatts which will surpass 6000 megawatts. On the other hand, the government is pointing out towards the addition of 11000 megawatts electricity in the system.

A statement of the Ministry of Power and Energy said that power demand in the month of June would stand at 24000 megawatts while they will have power production 24800 megawatts. But NTDC reportedly said that the system cannot afford the load more than 18000 megawatts.

On the other hand, the Auditor General refused to the pre-audit huge amount of Rs 80 billion provided to the powerhouses on account of circular debt owing to payments of Rs 400 billion under the head of circular debt and financial irregularities.
