QUETTA: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday acquitted former provincial minister Gazain Marri in a case pertaining to his alleged links with banned militant organisations due to lack of evidence.

Gazain Marri, a former separatist leader and the son of late Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, had returned from self-exile on September 22, 2017, when he was arrested by the police from the airport.

On Thursday, ATC Judge Dawood Nasar said that no substantial evidence against Marri was provided before the court.

In 2017, police had registered a case against Marri for supporting banned militant organisations in Balochistan. Marri has already been acquitted in four other cases, while he has been granted bail in the Justice Nawaz Marri murder case.

In January, he had announced to quit separatist and nationalist politics, stating he would join mainstream politics.
