LAHORE: Three siblings on Monday died after allegedly having poisonous toffees in the Manawan area of the provincial capital.

According to the details, the three including ten-year-old Haseeb, seven-year-old Tayyab and three-year-old Alisha ate the toxic sweets after buying them from a local tuck shop. After the health of the children deteriorated, they were rushed to a nearby hospital where they died while being provided medical treatment.

Following the sudden deaths, the local police reached the scene and shifted the dead bodies of the children to Services Hospital. The bodies would be handed over to the family after autopsy.

While reports claimed that the deaths were a result of the children consuming poisonous candies, initial medical examination of the bodies has revealed that the tragic incident was not caused by the sweets. It is worth mentioning that no other such incidents were reported in the area either.

However, soon after the deaths, all shops located in the area were immediately shut down and samples of the sweets from the said and other shops were also collected and sent for laboratory tests.

Later in the day, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Director General (DG) Noorul Amin Mengal visited the bereaved family and offered his condolences to the father and uncle of the deceased.

Speaking to the media, the PFA DG told that a technical team had been constituted to probe the incident, while the police after registering a case have also started investigating the deaths.
