ISLAMABAD: The capital police have decided to introduce portable solar traffic signals after their trails demonstrated success, a local news outlet reported on Saturday.

Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials have ignored Islamabad Traffic Police’s request for replacements for 22 traffic signals which are currently inoperable. SSP (The Senior Superintendent of Police) Traffic Malik Matloob has asked police officials to procure donations from friends in order to purchase the portable signals. A portable solar traffic signals costs Rs 700,000 and a friend of the IGP (Inspector General of Police) has donated one signal while pledging for another within several days.

He further explained that the CDA’s response over the issue has been disappointing and limited funds were cited as the reason for their lack of response.

“We need 20 more signals for the city and efforts are being made to arrange them through donations,” he added.
