Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who were recovering from wounds he sustained in an attack on his palace last week, began rehabilitation exercise in a military hospital in Saudi’s capital, the Yemeni ruling party said.
“The Saudi medical team overseeing the treatment of President Saleh confirmed that the president started rehabilitation exercise on midday Friday as he is in good condition,” the ruling party’s website quoted a Yemeni official in Riyadh as saying.
“According to the doctors in the military hospital in Riyadh, Saleh’s exercise today (Friday) was a strong indication of the improvement of his health,” the official Hassan al-Kumaim added.
Saleh’s health condition stabilized following the removal of shrapnel hit near his heart in the attack which left 11 of the Republican Guards dead and 185 others, including ministers injured, the report said.
The ruling party blamed the attack on armed tribesmen loyal to opposition tribal leader Sadiq al-Ahmar, while the Defense Ministry accused al-Qaida.
However, officials who were at the scene said they heard that the attack was a revenge by the president’s half brother Ali Saleh al-Ahmar who was arrested later in the presidential palace over short clashes.
