We love Saif Ali Khan as an anchor, and he’s going to be back in action on stage hosting IIFA Rocks, a music and fashion event, at the Videocon d2h International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend starting June 23 in Toronto. Saif, who made a rocking team with Shah Rukh Khan as the host of quite a few editions of the Filmfare Awards, has danced on the IIFA stage in Dubai, Yorkshire and in Colombo last year. But this is the first time he will host a show.
The show is scheduled for June 24. The organiser, Wizcraft International Entertainment, feels Saif is a perfect fit as an anchor for IIFA Rocks, to be held at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, because he knows how to dress and is a music lover. Saif’s love for strumming the guitar is well-known, so he might just treat his fans to some of his own music on the stage. IIFA Rocks, presented by Grey Goose, is aimed at raising funds for the IIFA Foundation, set up to support families of the film industry workers who have been adversely affected during the production of films.
This year, IIFA Rocks will also announce the 12th Floriana IIFA technical award winners and see a musical performance by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy as models from around the world will walk down the ramp in couture from India and Canada. The event is also expected to see participation from some international music artists, but the names are currently under wraps.
This is the first time a music workshop is being organised by IIFA, and its theme is Music Bringing Cinema Alive. The workshop, to be held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel June 25 morning, will open with a brief history of Hindi film music and will be followed by a discussion on the integral role it plays in Bollywood films.
Composer trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, who have had hits like ‘Desi girl’ and ‘Jhoom barabar jhoom’, will also use inputs and recommendations from the audience to compose a song during the course of the day. They will also invite members of the audience up on stage to jam with them. Bhardwaj, who recently won a National award for his work in ‘Ishqiya’, will speak about how music is infused into films, based on plots and scripts and how the music composer looks into all components – background score, lyrics and music.
