SHARJAH: Talking about his extensive experience of playing multiple T20 leagues across the globe, Sohail Tanvir admitted that being a freelance cricketer was not his choice since he had no other option.
The left-arm pacer said, “This is not my first choice. It is by force. Because I had no options. Being a professional, you have to play cricket wherever you get your chances.”
About his eagerness to return to the national side, Tanvir said his priority “is always to play for Pakistan”. He complained of not getting his enough chances despite past performances. “It’s not in my hands,” he added.
In March, Tanvir became among the highest paid cricketers in CPL when Guyana Amazon Warriors retained him for a whopping USD 160,000.
When questioned about the best thing in Multan Sultans, he said it is his “own country’s team” and lauded the presence of Wasim Akram for coaching and moral support. He went on to exclaim, “For every left-arm bowler, having Wasim Akram is a blessing.”
Tanvir told he was unfortunate to not being able to make a mark in the Test cricket. Having played just two Tests and that too against India, he believed that he had performed well considering the conditions. The 33-year-old said he would have performed better if he was given a chance to play the longer format in South Africa, New Zealand and England where the ball swings more often.
The Multan Sultans star bowler said he was confident in his team to reach the eliminators despite the shaky performance.
