The SSUET Electronic Engineering Department students have created and prepared an American-inspired drone, installed with surveillance cameras, temperature system and global positioning system (GPS) technology. The drone has an ability to fly at an altitude of 150 metres with the travelling speed of 150 kilometres per hour. Nearly 40 innovative projects designed and produced by the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET) students have been put on display at the three-day exhibition on ‘Exposition on Current Issues of Pakistan’ at Expo Centre.
Appreciating the efforts of students in designing such novel projects, SSUET Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Saiyid Nazir Ahmed particularly praised the drone named ‘Shahbaz: The Doom Dronch’ – which in fact captured the attention of visitors at the exhibition. SSUET Registrar Shah Mahmood H Syed also visited the stalls and was amazed to see the outstanding skills of the varsity students in the field of engineering.
The drone designers, Muhammad Ali and Asad Anees, said the drone runs on hi-octane petrol and has a 1-litre fuel tank. The plane prototype is controlled by radio frequency system and captures pictures of the concerned target during flight through surveillance cameras and transmits its images to the on-ground Controlling System Receivers. The project creators claimed that they could install missile fire technology in the drone if provided with sufficient funds. Around 40 innovative projects have been put on display at the exhibition including Pak Energy Ramp, Solar and Electric Powered Vehicle, Solar Power Generating System, Intelligent Engraver, Laser Torch Based Sound Transmitter and Receiver, Prepaid Gas Meter, Wireless Switching, Wireless Doors, Automatic Street Lights, Intelligent Water Level Controller, Ball on Plate Balancing System, Students’ Attendance Information System, etc. Sindh Industries and Trade Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Health Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Youth Affiars Minister Faisal Sabwari, former Karachi naib nazim Nasreen Jalil, University of Karachi VC Prof Dr Peerzada Qasim also visited the SSUET stalls and appreciated the skills of students.
