RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz on Sunday stated that opposition parties are now using “petty tactics” to stop Nawaz Sharif and added that”such incidents cannot affect the resolve of my father”.

She was referring to the incident in which a person threw a shoe at former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Lahore.

While addressing Social Media Convention in Rawalpindi, Maryam said that she knows PML-N workers are hurt due to today’s incident against their leader but such incidents cannot stop Nawaz.

She said that this is not a social media convention or regular public rally rather it is a step towards a revolution. “The passion of people of Rawalpindi is matchless.”

Referring to the Islamic history, she said the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) did face difficulties, but he preached Islam with affection for the salvation of entire humanity.

Recounting struggle for democracy, she said political leaders like Nawaz Sharif could not be stopped by ‘sit-ins’, conspiracies and other undemocratic tactics.

Maryam said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had promoted the culture of ‘abusive language’ in the country. “Was a condemnation message from him enough as he had been inculcating such violent culture into his supporters?” she asked.

She said the opponents should compete with the PML-N in organising huge public rallies, meetings, and social media conventions, and getting an overwhelming majority in elections.

The PML-N leader said the joint investigation team (JIT) could find no proof of any wrongdoing by the Sharif family. Similarly, nothing had emerged against Nawaz Sharif during the six-month trial by the accountability court, and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) would not be able to find anything in the extended period of two months, she added.

She said Nawaz Sharif was still made to face courts though he had already been sentenced and disqualified as prime minister.

While talking about PTI Chairman Imran Khan, she once again called him ‘Ladla’ of the judiciary.

“Although he could not submit his money trail and it was proved that he is the owner of an offshore company but still he was declared innocent while Nawaz Sharif was disqualified for not taking pay from his own son,” she said.

Maryam said the PML-N’s politics was to serve the people. Record development projects had been completed during the last five years, including motorways, Metro Bus, Orange Train, hospitals, colleges, universities, and power plants, but the ‘Ladla’ remained busy in politics of sit-ins and levelling baseless allegations against the PML-N leadership, she added.

Nawaz was being tried for the fifth time, but the corruption of not even a single penny was proved against him, she said.

Maryam said that the PML-N’s popularity graph was rising with each passing day. During last two weeks, thousands of youngsters from Rawalpindi had joined the PML-N social media network, she added.

She paid tribute to members of assemblies and senators belonging to the PML-N for standing with Nawaz Sharif. After his disqualification, he had emerged stronger as evident from the fact that the PML-N was united.

None of the party members had cheated the leadership, she added.

The PML-N leader further said the popularity of PML-N is increasing with every passing day as thousands of young men from Rawalpindi have joined social media network of the party.

“The social media conventions of PML-N have the power to gather the whole city while same conventions of PTI cannot even fill a single auditorium,” she stated. “This is because that party has not performed at all in last five years.”

SHEHBAZ SHARIF RALLY IN GUJRANWALA

Furthermore, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif will also address a public rally in Gujranwala.

While Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz will attend the PML-N rally in Jinnah Stadium of Gujranwala, his niece is scheduled to speak at a social media workers’ convention in Rawalpindi, which will be staged at Fawara Chowk.

Tight security arrangements have been made for the Gujranwala rally. The PML-N’s interim president will be welcomed by Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir at 3pm, the party sources told, stressing that Shehbaz would have a heavy contingent of law enforcement officials around him.

Dastgir made an appeal to all party workers to reach the Jinnah Stadium “to thank Shehbaz for his efforts for the province and Gujranwala”.

On the other hand, Maryam Nawaz is said to address the social media workers’ convention around 2pm. Over 10,000 chairs have been set and 2,000 police officials will be deployed, media reports said.

PML-N MNA from Rawalpindi Malik Abrar said the young and old will welcome the ex-PM’s daughter, anticipating that a large crowd would show up at the Fawara Chowk.
