ISLAMABAD: The Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed on Friday challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the recently circulated presidential ordinance according to which authorities can now take action against individuals and outfits banned by the United Nation Security Council (UNSC), reported a local English daily.

The ordinance, signed in February by President Mamnoon Hussain, amended the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997 in order to enable the authorities to tighten the noose around individuals and organisations banned by the UNSC.

According to the publication, the main aim of the ordinance was apparently to declare the JUD and its charity arm, the Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF), as prohibited groups ahead of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) meeting in Paris which decided to put Pakistan on the anti-terror financing organization’s grey list from June this year.
