Rawalpindi facing acute shortage of water, residents forced to protest

RAWALPINDI: The residents of densely populated areas of Hokamdad Mohallah of Rawalpindi city have been forced to stage protests for the last 12 days due to the acute shortage of water.

The underground water level has considerably decreased, and due to the indifference of the staffers more than 60 tube-wells have been closed while others are facing technical faults.

To restore the water supply out of more than 350 tube wells, only 20 tube wells have been developed to compensate them which is causing acute shortage of water in Mohallah Hokimdad, Chah Sultan, Glass Factory, Dhoke Elahi Bux, Dhoke Kala Khan, Fauji Colony and other certain densely populated areas are facing shortage of water, affecting more than one 0.1 million people.

Sources said the city has been facing a shortage of approximately two million gallons of water which is expected to reach to 5 to 7 million gallons shortage in hot summer.

The Citizen Committee chairman has warned that if their demands are not met, they will resort to sit in at Liaquat Bagh.
